January 18 - 20 2008 Tyra attended a three-day Oncology Massage Workshop, Massage for People Living with Cancer. It was a wonderful workshop hosted by Shine Therapy, a Non-Profit organization in Fort Worth, which provides free massage to people living with cancer. The workshop was taught by internationally-recognized Oncology Massage Instructor, Gayle MacDonald. Gayle demonstrated massage techniques appropriate for people undergoing treatment for cancer, post treatment massage, and massage for those at risk for lymphedema. The workshop ended with massage given to people who had received cancer treatment. It was a beautiful, life-affirming workshop.

November 2007  Yea!!!  Tyra is now certified as a Professional Bowenwork Practitioner.  It has taken 15 months of hard work and dedication to get certified by the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia, but it was worth the effort. Of course, she must continue to take continuing education class to stay certified. That is not a problem, Tyra is already looking forward to Advance Bowenwork classes in 2008. More information on Bowenwork and its benefits can be found here on our website.

November 15 - 18, 2007  Tyra stopped massaging for four days to be a teaching assistance for a Lymphatic Drainage Level 2 workshop in Fort Worth. It was wonderful to get a review and see the excitement of the students as they leaned new techniques to help the lymphatic system. Tyra found that helping them refined her own skills. She was also approved to assist in the Level 3 Class in 2008.

October 29, 2007  Tyra completed her CPR class. CPR certification is required for Bowenwork certification.  It is a good idea for everyone to be up- to- date on the latest CPR techniques.

October 3 - 7, 2007  Tyra headed back up to Gravette, Arkansas, to attend a two-day review, rest a day and then take an extensive two-day written and practical test module in Bowenwork (aka Bowtech). It was intense, but she passed unconditionally. She had already written her required article for submission to the Bowen Hands Magazine and completed her ten case studies (many thanks to Tyra’s wonderful clients who let her practice new techniques every time she got back from her Bowenwork classes.) Now just a few details, a little paperwork and a CPR class and she can get certified in the Bowenwork.

July 19 - 22, 2007  Tyra was a teaching assistant in a four-day Lymphatic Drainage Therapy Level 1 class in Dallas. It was great review for her and fun helping therapists learn the wonderful lymph techniques. It was the 2nd time she had assisted the class and the curriculum had changed slightly to become even more effective. Tyra has been using Lymphatic Drainage Therapy since 2007. It is amazing for allergies, reduce swelling and to boost the immune system. Check out the FAQ section for more information.

June 30 - July 1, 2007  It was off the Lexington, Kentucky for a Mind Body Bowen Workshop instructed by Bowenwork instructors from Australia. The class illustrated how the Bowen moves relate to Acupressure points and meridians. The class also demonstrated how the body will guide the practitioner which to the moves that will benefit it to maximize its healing potential. It was clear that sometimes fewer moves are more powerful than many. That concept was brought home clearly to Tyra when they did only 4 moves on her the first day and she had major releases that night.

March 31- April 3, 2007 Tyra completed Bowenwork Modules 5 and 6 in Gravette, Arkansas. Refining earlier techniques, she learned new techniques to reduce neck and shoulder pain and improve their range of motion, address bursitis, incontinence and bedwetting, assist conception and relieve chest and sternum pain and much more.

April 1, 2007  Laura Yoo, a Texas Licensed and Nationally Board Certified Acupuncturist, has joined Bishop Arts Massage and Wellness Center. Laura has a Master of Oriental Medicine from the Dallas College of Oriental Medicine. The program included Oriental Theory, Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Anatomy and Physiology, Western Pharmacology, and at least 2 years of clinical internship. In order to be licensed, she passed national examinations in theory, acupuncture point location, and biomedicine. Laura has been practicing in the area for over a year. She is a great addition to the Center and the Bishop Arts area. See more about Laura, her training and credentials in the therapist section of this website.

January, 2007  We've added a new list of Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers) as well as a glossary of massage terms.

December, 2006 Tyra just got back from attending Bowtech Modules 4 & 5 in Gravette, Arkansas. Tyra, with over 10 years of massage bodywork and energy experience, has taken many advanced classes. Bowen Technique’s deeply relaxing effects, pain relief and ability to empower the body to heal itself make it one of the most exciting modalities that she has experienced. She had so much success from the first workshop that she continued her training as soon as possible. This workshop included new knowledge on treating the pelvis, knees, ankles, elbows and wrists.

August, 2006 Tyra attended the Bowtech Module 1 & 2 Workshop in Gravette, Arkansas. The Bowen technique is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. It is sometimes called the "homeopathy" of bodywork. It utilizes small, but measured inputs to the body stimulating the body to heal itself, often profoundly. Tyra is excited to learn the new technique and looks forward to using it to help her clients. The first two modules take the basic moves and ways to effectively treat many kinds of back and neck pain.

July, 2006 Tyra is now certified as a Medical Massage Master Practitioner after attending a five day Medical Massage Workshop. The new skills will help her treat back and neck pain and other injuries more effectively. She also received training on electrical stimulation that will help her treat trigger points with less discomfort. She also learned to use massage cupping techniques to relax tight congested muscles and induce relaxation. Tyra also purchased the equipment to provide these new services.
